Medicare Supplement Plan B
Medicare Supplement Plan B is one of the standardized Medicare Supplements plans available in 47 states of the United States. Hence, the Plan B that’s offered in one state provides the same coverage as the Plan B that’s offered in another state. This, however, is not so in Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. If you’re in any of these three states, you may have to buy a different type of coverage.
Medicare Supplement Plan B is not the same as Medicare Part B, although they sound alike. The Medigap Plan B premium depends on several different factors and can vary from person to person and company to company.
The Medicare Supplement Plan B provides the following coverage:
-
Part A coinsurance and hospital costs up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are used up
-
Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment
-
Part A deductible
-
Medicare Part B coinsurance or copayment
-
The first 3 pints of blood used in a medical procedure
Medicare Supplement Plan B doesn't cover the following categories, and these will have to be paid for out-of-pocket:
-
Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance
-
Part B deductible
-
Part B excess charge
-
Foreign travel emergency medical costs
Medigap Plan B is very rarely sold there are other options that are usually a better value like Plan G and Plan N.
