Medicare Supplement Plan L
Medicare Supplement Plan L is one of the standardized Medicare Supplements plans available in 47 states of the United States, except in Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. In other words, the Plan L that’s offered in one state provides the same coverage as the Plan L that’s offered in another state.
Medicare Supplement Plan L is nearly identical to Plan K. They both provide partial coverage, however, Plan L covers 75% of the expenses it covers. So, you have to pay 25% out-of-pocket. It typically has relatively low monthly premiums.
Medicare Supplement Plan L covers Part A coinsurance and hospital costs up to an additional 365 days after Medicare benefits are used up. It also covers 75% of the following:

Part A deductible

Part A hospice care coinsurance or copayment

Part B coinsurance or copayment

Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance

First 3 pints of blood in a medical procedure
Medicare Supplement Plan L Doesn’t Cover:

Medicare Part B deductible

Medicare Part B excess charges

Emergency medical care during foreign travel
Medigap Plan L is a great option for beneficiaries who are not concerned with Medicare Part B excess charges. Excess charges are not allowed in every state and even when they are allowed, they are not common. However, if you are asked to pay excess charges while on Medigap Plan L, you will have to pay completely out-of-pocket.
Also, Plan L is the second of the two Medicare Supplement plans with an out-of-pocket limit. In other words, you meet a deductible ($3,470 in 2023), after which, the plan pays 100% of its covered services for the rest of the year.
